F.A.Q.

Q. WHAT IS MINERAL MAKEUP AND HOW IS IT DIFFERENT TO COMMERCIAL MAKEUP?
A. Basically, mineral makeup is from weathered rock ... The Mineral Makeup used in cosmetics has been cleaned of micro-organisms and is made without using water which keeps it clean and free from bacteria. Mountain Mineral Makeup does not contain any chemical preservatives which is nearly always found in commercial makeup and now in some other brands of mineral makeup. Minerals have been used for centuries,Aborignal cave paintings are done using minerals, as were the eyes of Cleopatra! How great it is to see us going back to nature with its amazing variety of colours & oxides that can be mixed and matched to be used as blush, eyeshadows, bronzers, nail polish and hair colour!!! Mica is a mineral found in crystallized thin sheets ranging from clear to Black in colour, its light reflecting properties helps obscure fine lines and wrinkles. It does not sit in them!

Q IS ALL MINERAL MAKEUP THE SAME?
A. Consumers need to be educated on the type of minerals being used as they are not all created equal !! Look out for ‘none mineral’ products added to mineral makeup. PLEASE LEARN TO READ YOUR INGREDIENTS LABEL! Too many mineral manufacturers are getting on the bandwagon and adding additions to mineral makeup that ‘bulk it up’,(commercial makeup nearly always has ‘fillers’ which we as consumers are paying a high price for something that is completely useless for our skins) Titanium Dioxide added to mineral makeup is the natural SPF factor used in mineral makeup and many other skin preparations including sunscreens. Zinc Oxide is also a natural healing mineral.

Q.ARE YOUR COSMETICS TESTED ON ANIMALS?
A. Mountain Mineral Makeup is accredited Vegan by ‘Choose Cruelty Free’. Mountain Minerals has gone to a lot of trouble to make sure that no animal was used for testing any of our ingredients. The practice of animal testing in the name of beauty is abhorrent to us. Some of the biggest cosmetic companies around still allow animal testing for their products, please check out the list of companies still testing on the website, you will be shocked! Our aim is to help put an end to this practice. The animals may not be able to talk, but they can ‘feel pain’. Our Kabukis and hairs on our brushes are all synthetic which is why they feel so soft to the skin. There is no need to use a brush that feels like a ‘pot scourer’. We also support the campaign for safer cosmetics.

Q. IS MINERAL MAKEUP BETTER FOR YOUR SKIN THAN COMMERCIAL, IF SO, WHY?
A. The difference between mineral and commercial makeup is as mentioned before, synthetic preservatives are added to nearly all commercial makeup. When you ‘Google’ the ingredients listed on commercial makeup, it is like a ‘chemical cocktail’. This same cocktail is penetrating through your skin into your system. Like anything else in life, some people will not be affected, whilst others will be greatly affected either internally or externally. So is it better for your skin? If given the choice between makeup with a ‘chemical cocktail’ of ingredients in it that can be absorbed into your system, and a makeup with natural minerals including an SPF Factor and healing Zinc, I know which one I would prefer my young adult daughters to use and my grandaughters given the choice. I only wish I had known about mineral makeup when I was younger!

Q. I HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO WEAR MAKEUP FOR MANY YEARS BECAUSE MY FACE BREAKS OUT AND I ‘ITCH’ DREADFULLY. WILL THIS HAPPEN WITH MINERAL MAKEUP AS WELL?
A. Bismuth Oxychloride is a well known addition to commercial makeup and also found in some brands of Mineral Makeup. Bismuth Oxychloride is a by- product of copper and lead and known to be the #1 irritant for woman who have break outs, acne, itchy skins and rashes using makeup with Bismuth in it. As long as the ingredients used in mineral makeup does not contain Bismuth Oxychloride,Talcs,Fragrances and certain Parabens(A preservative) there is no reason why you cannot wear mineral makeup and in fact, many of customers have not been able to wear makeup for the same reason as yourself for many years but are now happily wearing it free of the ill effects they once had from commercial makeup. Even children can wear it!

Q. IS MINERAL MAKEUP 100% SAFE?
A. Nothing in life is 100%.! There are some people that are so sensitive to the elements, to food, to just about everything, that the word 100% safe should never be used. We are in the process at the moment of bottling a moisturiser and a foundation mousse which is a 100% ‘Nut Free’, All Natural, with a proven broad spectrum preservative system. Clients who have been ‘ultra sensitive’ in the past have reported that this is the first time they have been able to use a moisturiser without ill effect on their extremely sensitive skins. We think it is going to be a ‘winner’ . As with everything you try on, if you have a reaction to a product, even natural products, stop using it immediately. I would however be more concerned about the products in commercial makeup and the additives and preservatives in our food, than I would be about mineral makeup!

Q.HOW DO I KNOW WHAT IS THE RIGHT COLOUR FOR ME TO TRY?
A. The Internet is only a guide to the colours of your minerals. We try very hard to be as accurate as possible but please allow for the different monitors and the colours each monitor produces. If you have never tried minerals before you will find they are fairly forgiving. Ask for three samples from mountain minerals who will not charge for the samples, only the 55 cents for the postage. Only one set of samples will be permitted per customer. An email to Mountain Minerals describing the colour of your complexion, your undertone if known, if you burn easily in the sun, and if possible a picture of your face without makeup will give us some idea of which samples to include which will be enough to try for one or two applications. If you are at a Mountain Minerals party, our consultant will show you how to test for a colour match. Your minerals should be tested along the jawline and the mineral colour should match your complexion as close as possible to the same colour as your complexion. NEVER try to give yourself a darker colour to give an ‘artificial tanned looked’….it will never work, trust me!

Q. WHAT APPLICATIONS CAN BE USED WITH MINERAL MAKEUP?
A. (My favourite question!) You will love the way that you can save money by using your Blusher as a Lipstick or as an Eyeshadow, your Eyeshadow as a Nailpolish, you can use your Finishing Powder as a “Setting Powder” or under your foundation powder as a Primer, you can mix your foundation or blush with your natural moisturiser to form a liquid powder or blush cream. You can add your mineral colours to clear lip balm and use as a coloured lip balm ... You can add the colour pigments to strips on your hair and spray with hairspray for a coloured streak look! Mix your mineral colours together to produce your own colour scheme. Send us in your favourite mixes and we will post them on the site for others.

Q. ARE YOUR MAKEUP INGREDIENTS APPROVED FOR COSMETIC USE?
A. Absolutely! All our ingredients are approved for cosmetic use as well as approved for use on eyes, lips, nails etc., The ingredients used are not micronised or nano-sized, and the products are made here in Queensland, not imported from China!

Q. I HAVE NEVER BEEN A PROFESSIONAL MAKEUP ARTIST, CAN I STILL BE A MOUNTAIN MINERAL CONSULTANT?
A. Whilst knowledge about makeup application is advantageous, it is not necessary to become a Mountain Mineral Consultant as all training will be given. If you like to work your own hours, love makeup and being with the girls…contact us!

Q. I THINK I HAVE PURCHASED THE WRONG COLOUR FOR MY COMPLEXION CAN I CHANGE IT?
A. By law we are not permitted to take refunds of opened makeup. HOWEVER….Makeup should not be tested under fluro light as in a Department Store. Minerals take about five or ten minutes to mould with your skins natural oils. In about 30 minutes your full colour should be out and glowing! If this is not the case, please advise us and we will send you a ziplock bag of a lightener or darkener to add to your minerals FREE OF CHARGE until you are happy with the result. If you tan after using a winter mineral colour or go lighter for winter after using a darker colour for summer, we will send you out a colour to correct your makeup so that you need never throw away your mineral makeup from Mountain Minerals.

Q. WHEN I APPLY MINERAL EYESHADOW, SOME FALLS ON MY CHEEKS, HOW DO I AVOID THIS?
A. Either (1) Use our ‘Fan Brush’ which flicks away the minerals when you are finished, or simply hold a finger under your eye whilst applying with the other hand. Another trick is to ‘tear’ a piece of tissue and pop it under your eye. Always ‘flick brush’ any loose minerals, do not rub off with finger.

Q. I HAVE ACNE ON MY FACE, WILL USING MINERAL MAKEUP HELP ME?
A. Mineral Makeup is PERFECT for Acne sufferers because there is nothing in Mountain Minerals that will irritate your skin. The zinc oxide will actually assist with your acne and I have had more than one acne prone teenager now going out and enjoying life wearing our mineral makeup.

Q. HOW LONG WILL A 10g & 20g JAR LAST ME OF FOUNDATION?
A. This is a tough one to answer– Obviously it depends on your useage. If a 10g Jar is used once per day you should get anywhere from 3-5months. Unfortunately we are so used to using a commercial powder in abundance to get an effect, Mineral Makeup is different, we have to learn the mineral makeup chant LESS IS MORE.! One shake into your lid and gathered with your Kabuki Brush and then tap lid to get rid of excess, then Buff,Buff.Buff. For a second layer apply again. New users tend to use far more than they should. A 20g Jar should last using once per day 9-12 months. If you need to use more than two applications and you do not have the coverage you require, try a shade darker or apply as a liquid foundation. The brush you use is equally as important for the dispersion of minerals onto the face. There is a good reason why Kabuki Brushes are used and not ordinary makeup brushes!
